What is the Ecolabel?

An ecolabel distinguishes tourist accommodations committed to the environment. It’s the certification confirming that the services offered by an establishment don’t disrupt the balance of nature. The European Ecolabel was created in 2003 to distinguish tourist accommodations such as campsites, gîtes, guest houses and others firmly committed to protecting the environment. It applies to numerous establishments, not just in France but throughout Europe. More and more campsites are also taking this path to promote green tourism.
The main commitments of these tourist accommodations are to minimise water and energy consumption, and where possible use renewable energy sources. They also adopt a waste-reduction policy by raising holidaymakers’ awareness. And, of course, they must use less harmful products to help preserve the environment.
To obtain this label, tourist accommodations must nevertheless meet the criteria set out in the specifications common to all European Union countries. Contributing to the protection and improvement of the local environment is the most important factor.
