With none of the ‘wild evenings, music into the small hours, or noisy entertainment’: Port Sainte-Marie takes a deliberately different approach in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, between Le Mans and La Flèche, in the Sarthe valley. This three-star site with 67 pitches, awarded the ‘Home vélo’ label, hosts around twenty bird species in an ‘enchanting, heavily wooded and restful’ setting. The ‘Wildbed’ concept focuses on discovering nature, with free loans of observation equipment (binoculars, nets, hand nets), a library and board games. Accommodation combines wooden cabins with or without sanitary facilities, mobile homes and fitted Bengali tents, alongside a pool, a water sports base open from May to September and a shop selling regional produce, at a campsite that is ‘on a human scale, very family-oriented’, in the Sarthe.
