Nature campsite on the banks of the Loing — eco-responsible and accessible by train from Paris
Camping La Rivière Dorée in Bagneaux-sur-Loing spans 4 tree-lined hectares on the banks of the Loing canal, on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest. This nature campsite in Île-de-France focuses on preserved biodiversity, locally sourced wooden accommodation (pods, tipis, cabins, gypsy caravans) and soft mobility: the Scandibérique cycle route (EuroVelo 3) runs alongside the canal right at the campsite’s edge, and it’s reachable by train from Gare de Paris-Lyon in under an hour (RER R / TER, alighting at Souppes-Château-Landon). On site: water-efficient sanitary facilities, composting, waste sorting, a herb garden, and partnerships with local producers. Just 10 minutes from the 9 iconic climbing sites of the Fontainebleau forest, a major playground for European bouldering. Discover good ecotourism practices.

At Camping La Rivière Dorée, services are designed to reduce the ecological footprint of your stay without compromising on comfort. The modern sanitary facilities are fitted with timed taps and low-energy LED lighting, hot water is produced with efficient water heaters, and a rainwater harvesting system feeds the watering of the herb garden.
On site: waste sorting at several collection points, a communal composter for green waste, a shared launderette with eco programmes, a motorhome service area (compliant waste disposal), an electric bike charging point coming soon, free Wi-Fi at reception. Seasonal takeaway pizzas are made with local, seasonal produce (garden vegetables, cheeses from neighbouring Seine-et-Marne producers).
The reception team speaks French and English, hands out paper trail maps (rather than apps) and directs visitors towards local shops and producers: the Souppes-sur-Loing market, the organic grocery shop in Nemours, farms selling direct. Set on 4 wooded hectares on the banks of the Loing canal in Bagneaux-sur-Loing, Camping La Rivière Dorée embodies a genuine eco-tourism approach: landscape integration, mindful water management, gentle mobility, low-impact accommodation. This family-run 3-star site opens onto the Fontainebleau forest, one of the largest deciduous woodlands in Western Europe, protected for its remarkable biodiversity (deer, wild boar, birds of prey, rare plants).
In terms of accommodation, the focus is on wood as a material and minimal impact: cosy wooden pods for 2, traditional tepees, cabins integrated into the trees, transparent bubbles for sleeping under the stars, and gypsy caravans — all with a very small footprint on the ground. For traditional campers, shaded pitches on stabilised ground limit soil sealing.
Accessibility by train is a major eco-friendly asset: from Paris-Lyon, a 1-hour journey on the RER R or TER to Souppes-Château-Landon, then a free shuttle (5 min). No car needed to reach the campsite, and the Scandibérique (EuroVelo 3) lets you explore the whole of Seine-et-Marne by bike from the campsite. Discover how to offset your holiday’s carbon footprint.

Camping La Rivière Dorée is an ideal base for active tourism that’s respectful of natural habitats. The Fontainebleau forest, 10 minutes away by bike or car, is one of the largest forest areas in Île-de-France, home to remarkable, protected biodiversity (full biological reserve, Natura 2000). Discover the benefits of forest walks for body and mind.
For climbers, the forest has 9 free-access climbing areas — Cul de Chien, Apremont, Bas Cuvier, Trois Pignons, Franchard — a world-renowned bouldering paradise. Climbing follows the “leave no trace” protocol: no chalk on fragile rocks, no bivouacking, respect for ropes and markings. By bike, the Scandibérique (EuroVelo 3) crosses the département, letting you reach Nemours, Moret-sur-Loing or Souppes without emitting a gram of CO₂.
On the water, the Loing canal can be paddled by canoe-kayak (a nearby motor-free boating base), ideal for observing aquatic wildlife (coots, moorhens, swans, grey herons, sometimes beavers). Angling is permitted from the banks (day ticket, catch-and-release recommended). And for families, nature workshops (bird identification, tracking, wild cooking) are organised in season by the Pays de Nemours tourist office.
