Organic Tourism

A growing number of holidaymakers are becoming aware that tourism really does have unsuspected impacts on the environment. Pollution and the degradation of nature are among its main dangers. This is why holidaymakers and tourist accommodations alike are taking a close interest in organic tourism, better known as green tourism or ecotourism.

The principle behind this style of holiday is very simple: discovering the local landscape without harming the balance of nature and its waterways. You then have the chance to spend a holiday as close to nature as possible while contributing to its protection. Wonderful eco-friendly holidays, in short!

If you’d like to go green during your holiday, start by choosing an eco-labelled place to stay. An establishment holding the European Ecolabel genuinely allows you to enjoy organic tourism. You can also stay by the sea, out in the countryside on organic farms, or right in the heart of nature.

What is an ecolabel?

But what does an ecolabel actually mean? An ecolabel is a form of recognition for environmentally friendly establishments. It distinguishes establishments, services and products committed to protecting the environment. In this sense, these eco-labelled establishments minimise the potential impact of discovery activities and tourism on the environment.

Ecolabels were created to meet the demands of environmentally conscious holidaymakers, but also to promote sustainable development within protected areas. They guarantee consumers the ecological quality of the services offered at the establishment.

At present, the NF Environnement and European Ecolabel recognitions are the only ones distinguishing eco-friendly tourist accommodations in France. Selection criteria depend on the requirements set out in the specifications. They’re regularly reviewed to maintain quality.
